Dr. Lim is Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Retina Service at University of Illinois, Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. She received her Medical Degree with Distinction from Northwestern University Six–Years Honors Program in Medical Education. She received her Ophthalmology training at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Eye and Ear Infirmary (UIC Eye Center) and her medical and surgical retina training at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was previously Professor of Ophthalmology and the Medical Director of Clinical Trials at Doheny Eye Institute at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California Department of Ophthalmology. Her primary research interests center around clinical trials evaluating new treatments for age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and collaborative research with basic scientists who investigate mechanisms of choroidal neovascularization. She has been or currently is the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials (PDT studies, EyeTech Studies, Acuity, VERTACL, LSOCA, PTAMD, RADICAL, DRCR studies, AREDS2, READ-2 and LSOCA).

She is a member of the Retina Society, Macula Society, American Society of Retinal Specialists, Women in Ophthalmology and Chinese American Ophthalmology Society (CAOS). She serves on the American Board of Ophthalmology Recertification Examination Committee and previously served on the Ophthalmic Knowledge and Assessment Program Committee for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, is an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and a holds committee and board positions in other societies. She is currently the Retina Subcommittee Chairperson of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting Planning Committee, the secretary of Women in Ophthalmology, Chairperson of Retina Society Credentialing Committee, and serves on the Editorial Boards of EyeNet, Eye Exchange Network and Retina Case Series and Brief Reports. She has received the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Honor Award from the American Society of Retinal Specialists, service awards from CAOS, teaching awards at USC and Best Doctors in America. She has authored or co-authored over 150 articles and 12 book chapters and has edited several books including Age-Related Macular Degeneration, which is currently in the Second Edition.

Practices Comprehensive Ophthalmology as part-time clinical faculty at The Emory Clinic, where she is Risk Management and Compliance Liaison for the section. She is Medical Director, Care Coordination for Emory Hospitals, working with managed care companies, physicians, and hospital operations to achieve expedited care for patients. She is a consultant for multiple managed health care organizations, assisting with guideline development and application in ophthalmology. She was most recently WIO Secretary. She has been WIO newsletter editor and member of the Board of Directors for the past three years. In 2000, she completed the AAO Leadership Development Program as WIO's sponsored nominee. She has served on the Board of Directors of OMIC, the Alabama Ophthalmology state society, and Coventry Healthcare of Georgia. She has served on the AAO Insurance and Practice Management Committees. She received the AAO Honor Award last year. For the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology, she is Third Party Payer Chair, is a member of the Council, and a member of the Georgia Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee. She is Chief Operating Officer for a family of eight (1 husband, 4 children, 1 babysitter, 1 dog) and recently celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary.

Ruth D. Williams, MD is a glaucoma consultant and partner at the Wheaton Eye Clinic, one of the largest ophthalmology clinics in the Midwest. Located in the Chicago suburbs, the 65-year-old Wheaton Eye Clinic provides subspecialty eye care to more than 100,000 patients each year. Dr. Williams is on the executive committee of this practice of 26 ophthalmologists.

Dr. Williams has been secretary for Member Services since 2005 after previously serving a four-year term as trustee-at-large on the Academy's Board of Trustees. She leads the Academy’s programs for young ophthalmologists. She chaired the Surgical and Specialty Section of the AMA, and led the Ophthalmology Section Council of the AMA for nearly a decade. Dr. Williams is an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She served on the board of Women in Ophthalmology as secretary from 2003 to 2006 and has chaired several WIO symposia and its annual clinical conference. Dr. Williams was chosen by her peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America,” was listed as a “Top Doctor” by Chicago Magazine and was chosen as one of “America’s Top Ophthalmologists.” She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society. She received an Academy Honor Award in 1998 and an Academy Senior Honor Award in 2004.

A popular speaker, Dr. Williams has given invited lectures at national and international medical conferences, including Kuwait, Brazil, China, Canada and India. She has appeared on a dozen major television networks and talk shows. She has been interviewed by numerous magazines, including Health, Women’s Health, Shape, and Good Housekeeping. Recent print interviews include The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. Dr. Williams is a clinical correspondent for the Academy. Dr. Williams attended medical school at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. She interned at West Suburban Hospital Medical Center. She subsequently completed a residency in ophthalmology at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and a fellowship in glaucoma at the University of California San Francisco. The mother of three, Dr. Williams is married to Stephen C. Gieser, MD, MPH. She is a marathon runner and avid reader.

Is an Assistant Professor at Stanford University and the Chief of Glaucoma at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital. She received her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at Stanford and fellowship in Glaucoma at the University of California, San Francisco with Robert Stamper MD, Jorge Alvarado MD, and Shan Lin MD.

In WIO Dr. Wang served as a board member since 2007 and initiated the Mentorship Program in 2006. She is active in many other professional organizations and has published in major peer-reviewed journals. Her current research interests include patient compliance and visual and ocular damage in blast-induced traumatic brain injury. She looks forward to further serving her community and the Women in Ophthalmology.

Is an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, the chief of the ophthalmology section at the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System and the Vice-Chair of the Applied Anatomy College at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. She has been active in several professional organizations including Women in Ophthalmology, the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (Media Spokesperson for NANOS and Uveitis Panel for the MOC), and the Los Angeles Eye Society and in community work as well. In WIO she was a member of the board from 2000-2003 and the alternate councilor to the AAO. She is committed to the professional and leadership development of women in ophthalmology both in the public and private sector and looks forward to an opportunity to further serve our community.

Is an Assistant Professor at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital at Cook County and at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Hospital. She is currently the CEO of Midwest Glaucoma Center, P.C. She received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University and her medical degree from Finch University Of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at Columbia University at Harlem Hospital Center in New York. She completed her Fellowship in Glaucoma at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University under the direction of Dr. Dong Shin, M.D, PhD.

Dr. Olivier has served on the Advisory Council of the National Eye Institute, the Women’s Task Force and Women and Diversity Committee at the Association for Vision and Research in Ophthalmology, is a delegate for the AAO to the American Medical Association. Dr. Olivier serves on the Board for Prevent Blindness America. She is past President of the Chicago Chapter for the Haitian Physician’s Association (AMHE) and the Midwest Association of Haitian American Women which she founded in Chicago. She is currently the Vice President of the Chicago Glaucoma Society. She is an active member of the American Glaucoma Society.

Dr. Olivier has published in major peer-reviewed journals and is one of the co-authors for the Glaucoma section in Clinical Eye Atlas. She is one of three editors of the book Maintaining the Target Intraocular Pressure: African American Glaucoma Specialists. She conducts regular medical mission to Haiti and serves on a number of voluntary health organizations.
